Anatomy of the Heart

Over the last few nights, I have aimed my telescope in the direction of the constellation Cassiopeia, forming a W, easily recognizable at the start of the night as it slowly rises towards the celestial meridian to the North-East of the celestial vault.

In this region, crossed by the end of the northern arch of the Milky Way, the Heart Nebula is located some 7,500 light years from us. Within it, an open cluster named Melotte 15, the heart of the heart, is a nursery of hot young stars generating powerful solar winds which create a tumult in the surrounding space.

With 33 hours of photographic exposures, this nebula reveals unparalleled complexity and reliefs that form an infinite landscape
