Date image was taken: August 12, 2024

Location (was image taken with remote scope?): Poland

Image Description and Details: The mosaic captures the peak of the Perseid meteor shower , from August 12th to 13th, along with meteors recorded over five nights, between August 8th and 13th. During this time, each of us traveled around a thousand kilometers across various parts of Poland in search of clear and dark skies.

On the night of the peak, near Śnieżnik, a spectacular aurora borealis graced our skies. Altogether, over these few nights, using five photographic setups, we collected around 14,000 (!!!) images, from which approximately 150 were selected for the mosaic. The post-processing alone took nearly 60 hours .

In addition to the Perseids and aurora borealis, the photo also captured a very rare phenomenon known as a Stable Auroral Red (SAR) arc, often referred to as a stable auroral arc.

Equipment Details: Canon EOS R, 6d + RF15-25, Samyang 14mm, Samyang 24mm, Sigma art 24mm.
