Image Description and Details: During a powerful geomagnetic storm on the night of 11-12 May 2024 in southern Montana near Yellowstowne National Park, the sky decided to show a fantastic spectacle. A thin green arch across the sky, including the Milky Way in the constellation of Eagle, glowed for several hours with varying intensity. This phenomenon is called STEVE - Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement and can be seen at lower latitudes than the typical Northern Lights. It is not yet thoroughly studied by scientists - there are hypotheses that it would be formed due to electric fields running parallel to the magnetic field of the Earth. However, I think that thanks to him we will remember even better this fantastic spectacle that took place in the sky on a memorable night.
