The Bridge

The Landwasserviadukt is one of the most spectacular railroad bridges in the world. It curves high above a narrow valley with a small river and then enters directly into a tunnel in the middle of a vertical cliff.

At this time if the year the Milky Way with colorful Cygnus lines up perfectly with the bridge. Capturing this image was a real challenge, because the bridge is illuminated at night. That's why most night images you see from here are blue hour shots. As me and my buddy Benjamin Barakat arrived late, this was not an option for us. I had my doubts whether we would get a usable result, but thanks to my past experience with brightly lit castles, I was able to handle the hard contrasts better than expected.

I planned to capture the trail of a passing train, but to my surprise it stopped right in the bridge. What a nice bonus!
