Location: Àger, Catalonia
Data Acquisition Method: Personal Telescope Setup
Image Description and Details: Located about 7,100 light-years away, SNR 206.9+2.3 lies near the Monoceros Loop and is currently in the radiative phase of its evolution.
This rarely photographed supernova remnant spans an impressive 58 light-years in diameter. The shock wave it generated loses energy through light and heat, forming intricate, filamentary structures that make it visually captivating.
The explosion that created this remnant occurred roughly 64,000 years ago, releasing a staggering 1.7 × 10⁴⁹ ergs of energy—equivalent to the Sun's energy output over 6 million years. A compact object was left behind, though it remains uncertain whether this is a neutron star or a black hole.
To capture this object I integrated 56 hours of data by using one of my telescope setups from my observatory located in Àger, Catalonia, under a B3 sky.
