Image Title: The edge of NGC 3628

Image Description and Details : NGC 3628 is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Leo. It forms a conspicuous group with M 65 and M 66, the Leo Triplet.

NGC 3628 is seen edge-on, with apparent dimensions of 14.0' x 3.6'. A conspicuous, broad equatorial band of dark dust clouds obscures the galaxy's bright central region, and hides most of the bright young stars in its spiral arms. The dust band is obviously deformed in the outer regions of the galaxy. The reason for this deformation is evidently the gravitational interaction with its two neighbors, M 65 and M 66.

Total acquisition time of 1.6 hour.
