Sh2-92 and SNR G65.3+5.7

Image Title: The Scream - Full Context (Sh2-92 and SNR G65.3+5.7)

Image Description and Details : More than a month ago, I took a shot of Sh2-92 with Sh2-91 (the bottom portion of SNR G65.3+5.7). That just forced me to pursue a mosaic that contained the entire supernova remnant (which also contains Sh2-94 and Sh2-96). It was a large effort: 27 nights over a month and a half, 134 hours of data, four panels, and half a terabyte of files. But it was a pleasure to see it slowly take shape over that time.

This area is not often shot, but it's a fascinating piece of Vulpecula nudging up to the larger Cygnus clouds. Again, I've named this The Scream in homage to Edvard Munch's painting of the same name. Poor little Sh2-92 looks terrified at the supernova shock wave that's headed his way. But he's actually pretty safe. He's about 12,000 light years away as opposed to the SNR, which actually poses more danger to us at only 3,200 light years in distance from Earth.
